French Polynesia
The lost paradise of Paul Gaugin
The French painter, Paul Gauguin set sail for Polynesia in 1891, in an attempt to escape from European civilisation and from all that was artificial and conventional. Seduced by the landscapes, the nature he saw around him and the island's people, he decided to spend the rest of his life there.
More than a century later, the collection of islands and reefs which forms French Polynesia continues to fascinate travellers who, in this remote corner of the planet, understandably believe they have stumbled on paradise.
Beaches of fine sand as far as the eye can see, exuberant vegetation and soaring peaks surrounded by turquoise lagoons make up the unforgettable landscape of Polynesia. It is an ideal destination for underwater sports, touring on horseback or bicycle or just relaxing and losing yourself in the crystal waters of this undiscovered paradise.
“I never thought it could be so difficult climbing a palm tree in search of the elusive coconut. Thanks to my friend Knaà, I did it...”
