The islands of Svalbard
Kingdom of the polar bear
With a latitude of between 74 and 78 degrees north, in the middle of the glacial Arctic Ocean, a collection of five large islands make up Svalbard. This is the realm of the polar bear which reigns over this collection of white glacial masses and infinite landscapes.
In Svalbard, accompanied by our professional expedition leaders, you can enjoy this white paradise, driving snow bikes or in a sled pulled by huskies. There is sailing, trekking, kayaking and trips through the glaciers.
Very near Temple Fiord, we are surprised at the the sight of the Noorderlicht, a classic sailing ship stranded between October and May, surrounded by nothing but ice, on a frozen sea, reachable only by dog sled or snow bike.
“A radiant sun was shining. We stopped dead on our snow bikes and in front of us, 200 metres off, appeared a mother bear and her two cubs, scarcely three months old.”
