FAQ (Questions and answers)

What are Virgin Galactic flights?

Virgin Galactic offers suborbital flights into space which reach an altitude of 110 kilometres while remaining within the orbit of the earth.

When will I be able to fly?

It is expected that the first passengers will be able to fly in 2011. Starting with one flight per week, frequency will eventually increase to one flight per day. There will be six passengers and two pilots on each flight.

Where will the flights take off from?

The first flights will leave the Californian spaceport of Mojave. As of 2011, the new spaceport designed by Norman Foster in the state of New Mexico will be the the world's first commercial spaceport and will become the operations base for Virgin Galactic.

Who can fly?

Anyone between 18 and 80 years old who is physically fit. In the months prior to the flight they will undergo a series of training sessions and medical tests to ensure the necessary level of health and fitness to take part in the space flight.

Is the flight safe?

The craft has been designed and constructed by Burt Rutan. His skilled team has come up with simple but effective solutions which, combined with innovative technology, guarantee the safety of the flight, especially in the most complex phases of the launch and re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.

Do these flights respect the environment?

Virgin Galactic's suborbital flights are much more eco-friendly than other systems of space travel. It's expected that the CO2 emissions per passenger on a suborbital flight will be some 25% lower than those generated per passenger on a commercial flight between London and New York.

How much does it cost?

The price, anywhere in the world is $200,000. When you make your reservation you are required to put down a deposit of at least $20,000 (you can elect to put down more). You will assigned a flight and pioneer number based on this deposit. At present more than 300 people worldwide have reserved their suborbital flight with Virgin Galactic.

What's included in the $200,000?

Apart from being the most incredible experience of your life –an experience which begins the day you make your reservation– the price includes training, the space flight itself, and three days full-board accommodation at the spaceport. Transport to and from the spaceport and the costs accrued by family and friends who accompany you are not included.

How can I make a formal reservation?

The reservation can be made through an Accredited Space Agency (ASA). In the case of Spain and Andorra, the exclusive sales rights  belong to BRU&BRU Exclusive Travel Designer.
