Spaceport America

Although initially Virgin Galactic suborbital flights will take off from the Mojave spaceport in California, the company has begun the construction of SpaceportAmerica, a new space airport which will be become its operations base as of 2011.

The new SpaceportAmerica is being built in the south of the state of New Mexico , based on an architectural design by Foster+Partners, led by the prestigious British architect Norman Foster.

SpaceportAmerica has been designed to harmonize with the natural landscape around it. It will boast some of the latest technological advances in the aeronautical sector and be built to meet environmental sustainability criteria.

Virgin Galactic does not rule out the possibility of constructing new space ports in other parts of the world in the  future with a view to making suborbital flights accessible to the greatest possible number of people.
